Compare short term car insurance quotes

Three providers of short term car insurance are tempcover.com, dayinsure.com and ecarinsurance.co.uk. Each of these companies have different criteria for calculating premiums, and different conditions specifying which clients they can accept, and which they cannot. You may therefore wish to compare quotations from all of them.

Please note that we have provided just a short profile of each company and in all cases there are additional terms and conditions. We recommend that you study these in detail on each website to ensure that any proposed policy is suitable for your requirements.

If you are under 21 the only company that we know of which will provide you with 1 to 28 days car insurance is tempcover.com. You would need to have had a full UK driving licence for at least six months, or they will accept a licence issued within the European Union which has been held for at least a year. The age limit is between 18 and 75, and applicants should have no more than seven penalty points on their licence over the last two years.

Cover can be third-party only or comprehensive, and vehicles to be insured must have a minimum value of £1000.

Dayinsure.com are the only short-term company that we know of that will accept applicants, subject to conditions of course, who are normally domiciled in Australia and New Zealand and hold licences issued within those countries, as well as British subjects with UK driving licences. Comprehensive cover only is available. This is reduced to third-party only cover for driving within the European Union, although this can again be increased to fully comprehensive cover for an extra premium. As well as cars, they will cover vans, motorcycles and motorhomes, subject to conditions.

Ecarinsurance.co. uk will only accept drivers over the age of 25, and their application form is quite long and comprehensive. Both of these could be an advantage however to older and more careful drivers. When an insurance company only asks applicants a small number of questions it means that they have to make a fair number of assumptions, and it is usually reasonable to assume that they will assume the worst! It is possible that by filling in a much longer application form older and safer drivers may be protected from subsidising younger, less experienced and more accident prone motorists. They also have an option for a monthly, 'pay as you go' policy with a minimum period of one month and maximum of 8 months.
